January is National Human Trafficking Awareness month. Human trafficking occurs along our nation’s roadways, and the transportation industry is doing something about it. Drivers are the eyes and ears of the road and have more opportunities to recognize signs of human trafficking and take action against it.

The FMCSA’s Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse site is live, and many truck drivers might be feeling the pressure to fully understand what will be expected of them. The good news? There’s no reason to be intimidated. The Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is specifically designed to streamline the hiring process for recruiters and carriers ... which will, in turn, make applying for these jobs easier for the drivers involved.

The holiday season is an ideal time to give special attention to the contributions of those who have impacted our lives and to give back wherever possible. Our team did just that on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, by proudly helping Wreaths Across America honor our nation’s veteran with a wreath sponsorship to show support for this important tribute to the sacrifices of fallen servicemen and women. Participating in Wreaths Across America, an annual industry highpoint, was a poignant and touching addition to our continual commitment to give back to our communities.

The idea of getting your hazmat endorsement can be very intimidating. Most people think of hauling dangerous chemicals and the accidents you see on the news. Did you know that there’s actually quite a broad spectrum of items that fall into the hazardous materials category? At Averitt, we’re not an acute hazmat carrier. This means that most of what our hazmat-endorsed drivers handle include flammable liquids like paint, or corrosive materials such as batteries or even soft drink syrup.

Charitable giving program has donated more than $7 million to worthy causes

Time and time again, Averitt associates prove that when we come together, there’s nothing we can’t do! Take our associate-funded, charitable-giving program Averitt Cares For Kids, for example. Through small weekly contributions over the last three decades, ACFK has given nearly $7.5 million to charitable causes, including $4.8 million toward the funding of research and treatment at St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
