We are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year! In 1971, Gary Sasser purchased a small carrier called Averitt Express. At the time, it had only two associates, three tractors and five trailers. From that beginning, we’ve grown a company that has made a huge impact on the trucking industry and the communities we serve. Here’s a quick look at some of our successes and how we’ve grown over the last five decades:

But in a larger sense, it's a commitment to future generations - individuals we'll never meet, but who'll hopefully enjoy a cleaner Earth in part because of our efforts. Averitt has created a network of Power Centers throughout our regional driver network, with safe, secure parking so that Averitt drivers can have added security during their work week. Located in less metropolitan areas, Power Centers provide ample overnight parking spaces for our regional driving team, so they're not searching for available spaces!

The FMCSA’s Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse site, designed to house drug and alcohol violation data and help streamline the hiring process, went live in January 2020. Since then, about 197,000 employers - a third of which identify as owner-operators - and 1.6 million drivers registered in the Clearinghouse, according to FMCSA. So, after one full year of the Clearinghouse site being live, what should our takeaways be?

Doug Denham has been a part of our team for 30 years, and he’s seen lots of changes during that time. One thing has remained the same – our family-oriented culture – and Doug says that’s one of the reasons we’ve experienced continued growth for 50 years.

Human trafficking is a major global issue. The multibillion-dollar industry worldwide is a modern form of slavery with approximately 21 million victims. In the United States, it is estimated that 18,000-20,000 victims are trafficked every year. Traffickers often use our country’s transportation system to move their victims. It is professional truck drivers like you, who continuously drive these roadways, that are in the best position to recognize and report possible human trafficking situations. So what can you do to help? Since January is National Human Trafficking Prevention month, Averitt Express wanted to take this opportunity to share some ways you can get involved and make a difference.
