Ongoing Covid-19 Response Works to Keep Everyone Healthy and Safe

2020 has turned into a very unusual year and we’re still wondering what “normal” will look like after the COVID-19 pandemic is in our rearview mirrors. For now though, Averitt is continuing to respond comprehensively to concerns regarding the virus. Over the last several weeks, we have taken our always-strong commitment to health and safety to a new high with ongoing efforts to keep all of our associates and particularly our amazing driving force – well and healthy.

We are proud of our open communication culture and have made sure to encourage associates to share their concerns and requests during this time. We’ve offered regular communication about updates and amenities for drivers to make sure everyone is informed.

Driver Support Centers available throughout our network offer drivers free parking, laundry services, bathrooms, showers, lounges, and a welcoming environment. Our facilities have always been thoroughly cleaned and maintained, but we have taken many extra precautions during the pandemic to ensure they are regularly disinfected so everyone can feel more comfortable there. Trucks and other equipment also undergo daily sanitization.

Other accommodations have included offering flexibility with driver schedules, providing paid general safety training, waiving co-pay requirements for online telemedicine through our provider, and making operational adjustments at delivery to allow for social distancing.

Numbers don’t always tell a story, but we have some that do! In addition to giving drivers disinfecting wipes and cleaning supplies for their peace of mind, we’ve also provided:

• 36,312 face coverings for drivers, dock associates, and frontline associates
• 7,327 hand sanitizer products
• 2,600 bottles of water
• 2,587 restaurant gift cards  
• 2,004 additional uniform items
• 1,500 snack bags
• 1,100 boxed meals

While we all continue to monitor news related to COVID-19, we are also looking ahead to better days! We feel enormous pride for the work of our Averitt associates in all positions who have faced this challenge with grace and perseverance.
